Taser vs. Zombies
Axon wanted to bring gamification into TASER training — a scenario officers would run repeatedly because they wanted to, not because they had to. Training tools tend to get used once and shelved; this one needed replay value.
Pair high-adrenaline urgency with repetition-based practice to drive skill retention. The game throws participants into a fast-paced environment, forcing split-second decisions while they master the real functionality of Axon's TASER product. The zombies supply the adrenaline; the device handling supplies the training.
I led the production, including the research required to replicate how the TASER actually operates. Fidelity to the device was the whole point — a fun game that taught bad habits would be worse than no game at all.
Our team studied the device in depth and recreated its realistic operation inside the game, so skills learned in play translate directly to real-life scenarios. A scoring system creates a competitive environment while giving each participant accurate performance insights and specific areas to improve.
Since launch, Taser vs. Zombies has gone through multiple updates and iterations, continually improving the experience and expanding its reach. It's played globally by law enforcement professionals, remains a staple at Axon public events, and sits as a cornerstone of Axon's VR training ecosystem.
